Each
One Teach One Film Workshops
Similar
to the professional workshops, but less technical
workshops are also being planned for
"at-risk" youth at local high schools.
These workshops are to be designed to spur an interest
in films as a career option. In an "Each
One Teach One" format, short films will be shot
at these schools and at Washington D.C. public housing
developments with the active participation of students
under the supervision of Micheaux Foundation
affiliated filmmakers and other film professionals
News:
The first Micheaux
Foundation "Each One Teach One" Workshop designed
for a D.C. Public Housing development is
scheduled to occur at the Barry Farms Complex in
Southeast Washington, D.C. in the Spring of 2003.
The Micheaux Foundation will assemble 30-40 high
school-aged residents for a workshop on African
American Images in Media. These workshop participants
will conceive and create a script for a short film or
music video to be produced on the grounds of the Barry
Farms complex by a crew of film professionals, each
mentoring a group of students in their respective
areas of specialty.
After
production and post-production, the participants and family
members will be transported to Howard University
theater for a screening of the completed film and an
awards ceremony. We strongly believe that this
hands-on exposure to the making of a film will
encourage many of these youth at risk to pursue careers
in one of the many areas of filmmaking that can be
studied at Howard University Film School or at a
comparable University-level film program.
